Shrink wrapping

Winter shrink wrapping for boats, RVs and outdoor furniture on Long Island

A heat-shrunk skin of 7 mil or stronger film that sheds water, rides out the wind and keeps the season's work clean until spring. We move it, stack it and wrap it.

What a Long Island winter does to a boat under a loose tarp

The usual failure is a blue tarp lashed on in a hurry. It flaps in every nor'easter and chafes the gelcoat where it rubs. It sags into pockets that hold meltwater, and that water freezes and thaws all season against the hull. By March the finish you paid to have detailed is scuffed, and the cover is in pieces.

Patio sets, grills and AC units fare no better under a throw-over cover. Wind finds the edges, snow load collapses the shape, and moisture that gets in has nowhere to leave. Long Island winters are hard on anything left outside, and the damage is slow enough that you only see it in spring.

How the wrap is built, moved and stacked

We use 7 mil or stronger film. It goes over the item, gets seamed and heat-shrunk until it pulls tight to the shape, and the tightness is the point: a drum-tight wrap does not flap, does not pool water and deflects it instead. It also follows irregular shapes, which a fitted cover never quite does, so a boat with a tower, a trailer or a pile of patio furniture all end up sealed the same way.

Storage is the real problem for most homeowners, and that is part of the job. We can move your items and stack them safely in a designated spot of your choice, then wrap the stack. Once it is shrunk tight, the stack becomes its own outdoor protective storage, which saves you the garage space and keeps everything together until the thaw.

Wrapped items also travel better. The film also adds stability when a boat or a load has to be moved.

Everything the film can cover, and how to book it

If it can survive outdoors but would rather not, we can wrap it. That covers boats of all sizes, jetskis, RVs and campers, patio and pool furniture, outdoor BBQs, umbrellas, firewood, gazebos, swingsets, AC units and pool filters, and plenty more.

We work out of Riverhead and wrap on site, wherever the item sits. A boat that goes under wrap clean comes out clean, so the detailing and the wrap work well together. Call (631) 466-1739 for a free, same-day estimate before the first freeze.
